Please note: To use the chat room software, you must have
Java Runtime on your computer. If you don't have it, or if you're not sure
if you have it, go here to check and, if necessary, download and install it.
Also, you must have javascript enabled. Go here to see if your computer
has javascript enabled and how to enable it if it isn't.
Most modern computers come with javascript enabled.
Be prepared to wait for 20-30 seconds before the log-in "screen" appears.
When the log-in screen appears below, type in a username. Usernames are not saved--you do not need to remember it for your next chat session. You can type in a short "profile" of yourself if you want. Only the Moderator (usually an HEA Board Member or staff member) should type in a password. Click on "Enter Chat Room" to open the chat room window.
The Chat Room itself now replaces the log-in screen. The list of people in the chat room is on the left, everyone's comments are on the right, and a box on the bottom is where you enter your remarks (click on "Send" when you're ready to send your remarks to the chat room). You can click on "Float" in the chat room menu to detach the chat room window from the webpage and change its size and position on your monitor.
We need people to "moderate" the parent/family chat, currently scheduled for 9 P.M. ET on Sundays. All you need to do is log in, welcome folks as they join in, and remain in the chat room for that hour so people will know the chat room will be there every week. You can volunteer to moderate every week, every other week, once a month--we'll work out a schedule so the chat room is covered. Please contact Betty if you're interested.
